Weddings FAQ

What regions and cities do your services cover?

I'm located in Küsnacht, just outside Zürich, Switzerland, with access to studios in Zürich.

Most of my projects and outdoor shoots take place in or around Zürich, however, I am more than happy to take on assignments anywhere in Swizerland.

I also typically shoot a few projects abroad each year and welcome such opportunities.

Do you offer customised services to fit customers needs?

Certainly! All of my services are flexible to some extent and can be adjusted to meet specific customer needs, even if they are unique.

For events such as weddings, I expect to discuss these details with you thoroughly before confirming any bookings. It's helpful to inform me of any special requests as soon as possible so that I can prepare accordingly and let you know how they can be accommodated within my service offerings.

Your satisfaction is important to me, and I'm committed to ensuring that your requirements are met effectively. Please feel free to communicate your preferences, and we'll work together to tailor my services to your liking.

Do you charge extra for travel costs / expenses?

All sevices provided within 25km of Zürich come with no travel costs or additional expenses.

Outside of that area I charge for travel at cost (no mark-up), for shoots lasting at least 2 hours, and with a small surcharge for shoots lasting less than 2 hours.

If a shoot requires overnight accommodation, or other agreed expenses, they will charged at cost, with no mark-up.

Do you offer online galleries and the abilty to download or order prints?

Absolutely. I am happy to to provide you with access to an online gallery on my photo gallery website.

https:///www.geoffpegler.com

I offer wide range of options for gallery security /access, downloading, printing and purchasing of photos and additional printed mechandise.

Typically, client galleries are unlisted (only accessible to those with a direct link and not web searchable) and also password protected. Download is typically switched off, but can be enabled along with other customisable gallery settings.

Online galleries are typically made available for 12 months but can be removed earlier, or provided for longer, upon request.

By default I switch off shopping features on client galleries. If desirted,  I can easily introduce highly customisable shopping options, although this is typically only of any interest for event photography.

I do also offer some photos for sale on my website, mainly from my extensive travel portfolio, in my portfolio galleries. If you find any other shots in my public galleries that you would like to purchase, that are not currently offered for sale, please let me know.

What equipment do you use?

I own and use the latest Nikon professional cameras and lenses and Elinchrom mobile studio flash equipment.

I typically use two Z9 camera on most assignments, with 2-5 lenses.

I own approx 25 lenses, the majority being top quality prime lense, from 10-500mm focal length.

For a wedding I would typically have 3 cameras, 5+ lenses, a range of portable light modifiers with me, on-site, optionally a drone.

For video I sometimes additionally use a top-end mobile device, typically mounted in a rig with optional external lighting, microphones and storage.

Are you able to shoot in low light situations?

I enjoy shooting in low-light situations. Infact, I'm well known for my sports and artisitc performance work which is often shot in low-light, with fast moving action - one of the most challenging combinations for any photographer.

I use cameras and lenses that perform well in low-light conditions and if desired (and if permitted) I have powerful mobile studio lights that can add to / enhance the available ambient light.

What happens if you are unable to shoot our wedding / event ?

In the extreemly unlikely event that I am unable, myself, to fulfil an arranged photo shooting assignment, I will endeavour to arange an alternative highly skilled photographer from one of many trusted colleagues.

Although I can't guarentee that I will be able to find a replacement photographer at short notice, that situation has yet to ever arrise.

Do you offer engagement photoshoots?

Yes. Engagement photoshoots are offered as part of my pre-wedding services.

Engagement photoshoots are a beautiful way for couples to celebrate their love and commitment before tying the knot. These sessions offer an opportunity to capture the excitement and anticipation of this special time in a couple's relationship, creating timeless images that will be cherished for years to come.

  1. Celebrating Love: An engagement photoshoot is a celebration of the love and connection between two individuals as they embark on the journey towards marriage. It's a chance for couples to express their unique personalities and the bond they share in a visually stunning way.

  2. Location Selection: One of the most exciting aspects of an engagement photoshoot is choosing the perfect location. Whether it's a picturesque outdoor setting such as a park, lake-side beach, or botanical garden, or a meaningful indoor location like a cozy café or historic landmark, the location sets the tone for the photoshoot and provides a backdrop that reflects the couple's style and personality.

  3. Outfit Coordination: Selecting the right outfits is key to creating cohesive and visually appealing images. Couples often choose outfits that complement each other in terms of color scheme and style, while still allowing their individual personalities to shine through. Some couples opt for casual attire for a relaxed and natural look, while others choose more formal attire for a sophisticated and elegant vibe.

  4. Professional Guidance: I will work with you to capture beautiful and authentic images during an engagement photoshoot, focusing on you, the composition and the light, whilst also offering guidance and direction to help you feel comfortable and relaxed in front of the camera. Engagement shoots often also provide a great opportunity for you to get to know me (hopefully,  your soon-to-be wedding photographer) and to build-up / further a trusting realtionship. .

  5. Personalization: Engagement photoshoots provide an opportunity for couples to incorporate personal touches and meaningful props into their photos. Whether it's including items that represent shared interests or hobbies, incorporating sentimental heirlooms, or incorporating elements from the wedding theme, these personalized touches add depth and meaning to the images.

  6. Timing: Engagement photoshoots are typically scheduled several months before the wedding to allow time for the images to be used in save-the-date cards, wedding invitations, and other pre-wedding materials. However, there are no hard and fast rules, and couples can choose to have their photoshoot whenever it feels right for them.

  7. Memorable Experience: Beyond the beautiful images captured during the photoshoot, the experience itself is something to be cherished. Engagement photoshoots provide an opportunity for couples to spend quality time together, creating memories that they will treasure long after the wedding day has passed. In summary, engagement photoshoots are a wonderful way for couples to celebrate their love and create lasting memories before their wedding day. From choosing the perfect location and outfits to working with a skilled photographer to capture beautiful images, engagement photoshoots are a joyful and meaningful experience that sets the stage for the journey ahead.

Do you provide after wedding photo-shoots?

Yes! - After the whirlwind of the wedding day has settled and the vows have been exchanged, many couples opt for a special after-wedding photo session, often referred to as a "day after" or "post-wedding" session. As your wedding photogrpaher, or even if I wasn't your wedding photographer 🙁, I am happy to offer newlyweds a session to capture more relaxed and intimate moments together, away from the hustle and bustle of the wedding day itself.

Whether it's a few days or weeks after the wedding, an after-wedding photo session offers couples the chance to extend the celebration of their love and create lasting memories in a relaxed and intimate setting.

What does an after-wedding photoshoot provide?

  1. Relaxed Atmosphere: One of the primary reasons couples choose to have an after-wedding photo session is to enjoy a more relaxed atmosphere compared to the hectic pace of the wedding day. Without the time constraints and obligations of the ceremony and reception, couples can take their time, savoring each moment and creating beautiful memories together.

  2. Stunning Locations: After-wedding sessions provide an opportunity to explore stunning locations that may not have been feasible on the wedding day. Whether it's a picturesque beach (perhaps lakeshore in Switzerland) , a charming cityscape, or a serene countryside setting, couples can choose a location that holds personal significance or offers breathtaking backdrops for their photos.

  3. Variety of Outfits: Another benefit of after-wedding sessions is the chance to wear different outfits or attire that may not have been practical on the wedding day. Couples can opt for more casual attire, elegant evening wear, or even themed costumes, allowing for a diverse range of looks and styles in their photos.

  4. Extended Creativity: With the pressure of the wedding day behind them, couples and myself can potentially explore more creative concepts and experimental techniques during after-wedding sessions. From playful poses to dramatic lighting effects, the possibilities are endless, resulting in truly unique and artistic images.

  5. Emotional Connection: After the excitement of the wedding day, the after-wedding session provides an opportunity for the newlyweds to reconnect emotionally and reflect on their commitment to each other. The intimate nature of these sessions allows for genuine expressions of love and affection to shine through in the photos.

  6. Timeless Memories: The photos captured during an after-wedding session serve as a timeless memento of the couple's love story, preserving the magic and romance of their wedding journey for years to come. These images can be cherished as a reminder of the joyous beginning of their married life together.

Do you have appropriate liability insurance?

I might not be Swiss (yet)  - but I did work in insurance for over 15 years. I have the appropriate liability insurance.

How would you describe your wedding photography style?

I would describe my wedding photography style as documentary with an emphasis on captureing real emotions. Of course, my primary focus is on the main couple and capturing them as naturally as possible throughout the celebrations.

When not clearly occupied with any pre-planned shooting, I'll often be found on the periphery of events, studying the guests with the aim of capturing candid shots that display natural emotions.

How long have you been working as a photographer ?

I've been providing freelance photography services since 2010, capturing images at hundreds of events and assignments. I've typically served as an accredited media photographer, covering a wide range of event types, alongside other assignments for private and corporate clients (e.g. weddings and corporate events).

My photo gallery website (hosting both client and personal photos galleries) contains over 50,000 photos from a significantly larger catalogue.

As of 2024, I have officially established my own photography company, solidifying my commitment to this craft as my primary vocation.

Are you willing to travel, also internationally?

Absolutely.  I'm happy to cover events across Switzerland and internationally. I have extensive experience with taking my photographic equipment abroad (mainly for travel and wildlife photography) but also for weddings and corporate events.

If you would like to see some of my photos from international (non Swiss) destinations, check out the travel galleries on my photo galleries website.

Do you speak German ?

Ja, ein bisschen...

Well enough for most situations linked to my photography services.

I have been living in Switzerland since 2001 and my German, currently around B2 level, is improving with wider use and I welcome any opportunity to try it out.

Can you provide references and testimonials from previous / existing clients?

Certainly! I'm happy to provide references and testimonials from both past and current clients. Additionally, you can find reviews from previous clients on my Google Business page. Please feel free to reach out, and I'll be glad to share them with you.

Can you show us some full galleries from weddings that you have photographed?

Yes, of course. I don't share full galleries on publicly open websites but can offer temporary viewing access to some unlisted galleries.

How does the booking / payment process work ?

The basic processis as follows:

  1. Contact me to let me know that you are interested in my wedding photography services.

  2. We have face-face meeting(s)  (or, if not possible, on-line) to discuss details of your request.

  3. A contract is signed.

  4. The date is secured in my calendar with a deposit, typically 50% of the contract amount.

  5. The remaining balance is due not later than one month prior to the wedding date.

I'm always happy to have chats leading up to your big day, to answers any questions you may have or to potentially onboard additional requests into an amended contract.

How far in advance should we book your wedding services?

It is always best to book as early as possible, but beyond 1 year in advance is typically not necessary.

Wedding bookings are not confirmed in my diary until payment of a deposit (see Booking Process FAQs).

Is a deposit required for reserving a wedding date in your calendar?

A non-refundable deposit or retainer fee (50% of the contract amount) is required at the time of booking to secure my services for your wedding date. This deposit is used to reserve my time and resources exclusively for your event and is non-transferable in the event of cancellation.

What is your cancellation / rescheduling policy?

Cancellation notice: In the event of a cancellation or postponement, I kindly request that you provide me with as much notice as possible. This allows me the opportunity to adjust my schedule accordingly and potentially fill the reserved date with another booking.

Rescheduling: If you need to reschedule your wedding to a different date, I will make every effort to accommodate the new date, subject to my availability. The deposit already paid will be applied to the rescheduled date, provided that the new date falls within one year of the originally scheduled date.

Cancellation Fees: If the wedding is cancellded less than 180 days prior to the scheduled date, part, or all the deposit will be forfeited as a cancellation fee.

  • For cancellations made within 90-180 days of the scheduled date, [25%] of the total contract amount will be due as a cancellation fee.

  • For cancellations made between 30-90 days of the scheduled date, [50%] of the total contract amount will be due as a cancellation fee.

  • Cancellations made within 30 days of the scheduled date will result in 100% of the total contract amount being due as a cancellation fee.

Force Majeure: In the event that the cancellation or postponement is due to circumstances beyond your control or mine, such as acts of nature, government restrictions, or other unforeseen emergencies (commonly known as force majeure), I will work with you to find a suitable solution. This may include rescheduling the event or adjusting the terms of the agreement as necessary.

Communication: Please notify me of any changes or cancellations in writing via email or certified mail to ensure proper documentation and clarity regarding the situation.

I understand that cancellations are never easy, and I aim to handle them with professionalism, understanding, and compassion. If you have any questions or concerns regarding my wedding cancellation policy, please don't hesitate to reach out to me.

What about posing for the couple shoot?

I understand that the thought of posing for couple photos can feel a bit daunting for most couples.

Rest assured, my goal is to capture natural and genuine moments that authentically reflect your love and connection. I want you to feel comfortable and relaxed during your photoshoot.

While I may provide some direction to ensure we capture the best angles and lighting, my normal approach is centered around capturing candid natrual moments rather than artificial poses.

During the photoshoot, I'll encourage you to interact with each other naturally, whether it's sharing a laugh, stealing a kiss, or simply enjoying each other's company. These authentic moments often result in the most beautiful and meaningful photographs.

If at any point you feel unsure or would like some direction, please don't hesitate to let me know. I'm here to make the experience as enjoyable and stress-free as possible for both of you. I can also work with you in a couples shoot, or engagement shoot prior to the wedding, or point you to additional resources to help you further, if desired.

I truly believe that your couple photos will be a reflection of the love and happiness you share, and I look forward to be a part of capturing these special moments for you.

What is the typical duration of the wedding couple's photo session?

The duration of a couples' photo session at a wedding can vary depending on several factors, including the couple's preferences, the wedding schedule, and the number of locations and poses involved. While there is no one-size-fits-all answer, the typical duration of a couples' photo session ranges from 30 minutes to 2 hours.

  1. Basic Session: A basic couples' photo session typically lasts around 30 minutes to an hour. During this time, I will focus on capturing essential shots of the newlyweds together, including traditional portraits, candid moments, and posed poses. This session usually takes place immediately after the ceremony or during the cocktail hour, allowing the couple to spend some intimate time together while their guests are occupied elsewhere.

  2. Extended Session: For couples who prioritize photography and want to capture a wide variety of poses, locations, and emotions, an extended photo session is recommended. This session can last anywhere from 1 to 2 hours or more, allowing for more creativity and flexibility in the photography process. We might visit multiple locations within or near the wedding venue, incorporating props or accessories, or experimenting with different lighting conditions for a diverse range of images.

  3. Sunset Session: If the wedding coincides with the golden hour or sunset, couples may opt for a dedicated sunset photo session to take advantage of the beautiful natural light. This session typically occurs shortly before or during sunset, and can last anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour. If desired, I will schedule this session around the optimal lighting conditions to capture breathtaking images of the couple against the backdrop of a colorful sunset.

  4. Breaks and Logistics: It's essential to factor in breaks, travel time between locations, and any logistical considerations when planning the duration of the photo session. Couples may need time to freshen up, change outfits, or rest between poses, especially if the session is extended or takes place in multiple locations.

  5. Communication and Planning: Good planning and clear communication proior to the wedding is crucial for determining the duration and scope of the couples' photo session. Couples should discuss their preferences, priorities, and any specific shots or locations they have in mind with me during the wedding planning process to ensure that the photo session aligns with their vision and expectations.

Ultimately, the duration of a couples' photo session at a wedding depends on various factors, and there is no one size fits all. By collaborating closely with me and allowing sufficient time for the photo session, couples can ensure that they will have beautiful and meaningful images captured that they can cherish for years to come.

When & where do you recommend taking the couples photos?

Capturing couples' photos at a wedding is one of the must-dos for any wedding, that requires careful consideration of various factors, including lighting and the often timing of the sunset. The ideal timing for these photos depends on a combination of logistical, aesthetic, and practical considerations.

  1. Golden Hour: Many couples prefer to schedule their couples' photo session during the "golden hour," which refers to the period shortly after sunrise or before sunset when the sunlight is soft, warm, and diffused. This lighting creates a romantic and flattering atmosphere for portraits, with gentle shadows and rich tones. However, this time can often coincide with dinner, or a late reception.

  2. Scheduling: The timing of couples' photo session needs ot fit within the wedding timeline. Typically, couples' photo sessions can take 30 minutes  to 1 hour and are taken after the ceremony and before the reception, during the cocktail hour or the "quiet moments" immediately following the ceremony. This allows the couple to spend some intimate time together while their guests enjoy cocktails or hors d'oeuvres. A second session is sometimes also shot to take advantage of the sunset (see below).

  3. Venue Considerations: The venue's layout and available outdoor spaces also influence the timing of couples' photos. If the venue has picturesque gardens, scenic overlooks, or other outdoor settings, taking advantage of these locations during the golden hour can enhance the beauty of the images.

  4. Sunset: If the wedding coincides with the sunset, timing couples' photos to coincide with this natural phenomenon can result in stunning imagery. Photographers often plan to capture the bride and groom against the backdrop of a colorful sunset, adding a touch of magic to their photos.

  5. Backup Plan: It's essential to have a backup plan in case of inclement weather or unforeseen delays. Indoor locations with ample natural light or attractive architectural features can provide an alternative setting for couples' photos if outdoor shooting is not feasible.

  6. Artificial Lighting: In situations where natural light is insufficient or unavailable, photographers may use artificial lighting techniques such as off-camera flash or studio lighting setups to ensure optimal illumination for couples' portraits.

Ultimately, the best time to take couples' photos at a wedding is when the lighting is most flattering, the couple is relaxed and comfortable, and the logistical arrangements allow for a stress-free photography session. By carefully planning the timing and location of couples' photos, photographers can capture beautiful and memorable moments that the couple will treasure for years to come.

How do you shoot the wedding dinner?

Your wedding dinner provides one of the best opportunities for capturing images of natural interactions between you and your wedding guests. I will follow any and all requests that you may have for photo coverage of your special evening - which will  plan together prior to the wedding day.

Capturing photos during your wedding dinner is a special opportunity to cherish the joyful moments shared with loved ones. As you celebrate your union, I will skillfully document this significant part of your day, ensuring that every detail and emotion is beautifully preserved for you to revisit for years to come.

Before the dinner commences, I will prepare by familiarizing myself with the venue layout, identifying key areas for capturing important moments such as speeches, toasts, and dances, as well as details such as flowers & table deocartions. Equipped with the necessary gear for low-light conditions, i'll be ready to capture the essence of the evening without intruding on your guests' experience.

Throughout the dinner, I will focus on capturing candid moments of laughter, tears, and genuine interactions between you and your guests. I'll pay attention to the unique details of your reception, from the elegant table settings to the exquisite décor, ensuring that every aspect of your celebration is beautifully documented.

From your grand entrance to the cutting of the cake and your first dance, I'll be there to capture all the special moments of the evening from multiple angles.

While documenting the traditional moments of your dinner, I will also bring creativity, experimenting with different angles, compositions, and lighting techniques to capture truly unique and memorable images.

Above all, I will respect your privacy and the boundaries of your guests, ensuring that I capture the essence of the evening without disrupting the flow of the event. With their skill and sensitivity, I will create a timeless collection of photos that you'll treasure for a lifetime, preserving the memories of your wedding dinner in all its beauty and joy.

How long will it take receive the final edited photos?

I typically provide estimated delivery times for final photos in the details of my service offerings.

For most 1-2 hour assignments I will have initial selections and edits made within 24 hours and final edits typically delivered within 48-72 hours of the shoot.

For longer events, weddings, events outside of Switzerland and other events requiring more detailed, specific editing, it might take up to 4-6 weeks to receive final photos during particularly busy times - but more typically I provide final edits in 1-3 weeks for even the most demanding assignments.

If time-presure is urgent or if there are any other concerns regarding the delivery of final edited photos - please let me know ASAP and I will endevour to accommodate any special requests.

Do you offer photo albums?

I can provide an offer for a high quality photo album. This is most typically done for weddings but I can also offer photo albums for other service areas. However, with the wide range of online services available, it is now more commen for clients to create their own photo albums using my photos rather than asking me to design and print an album for them.

Do you deliver RAW files?

Typically not. I always shoot in RAW and then deliver full quality jpegs to clients after editing.

Some clients (e.g. media) explicity request no post-processing, but that is rare outside of the media domain.

As a professional photographer I pride myself in only delivering quality images and that invariably requires some post processing of the images.

Typically only minor editing is required (I like to get things right at the shooting) but some situations with highly variable lighting or other variable factors result in photos requiring more post-processing attention.

On other occasions a customer might request a certain "style" or look to photos which requires the application of alternative colour profiles, pre-sets andadditional tweaks -  which I am typically happy to provide, when requested.

How long after the wedding do you send the wedding album ?

Wedding albums are requested as optional extras for my wedding services. Many couples now like to create an ablum themselves for their special day. If I am requested to create & deliver a wedding album,  it is most likely to be delivered between 2-4 months after the wedding day. The delivery time depends most on my current workload (e.g. is it high season) and any specific requests of the wedding couple regarding the album specifications, e.g. content & styling.

Some photo tips for the wedding ceremony

  • Plan and discuss with me how you and your guests will enter the ceremony - and where I (the photographer) will be able to stand and  move around during the ceremony (I use a silent shutter)

  • If reading your vows, use a nice piece of paper rather than a mobile phone

  • Ask your guests to go unplugged during the ceremony  - i.e. ask guests not use their mobile phones, ipads etc. during your wedding ceremony

  • Centre yourselves & the advocate for the ceremony relative to decorations / desired framing

  • Ask guests to walk down the aisle slowly and well spaced, in groups, to accommodate photos

  • Groom - phone in jacket pocket, not the trousers
